Day 201- August 23, 2014 (Late Post)

I have been so busy that I have not been able to post any pics! I mean super busy. Anyhow I wanted to post something. Ode to the beauty of summer! My locks are growing ridiculously. I can now just do whatever I want with them and thats exactly what I do! Still the best decision I have made. I am always asked if I have extensions. The integrity of Sisterlocks is to frolic in life with your own hair, no extensions! I will definitely post on October 2nd because that will be my 9 month lockversary and the day after my wonderful birthday!

6 Month Anniversary (8/2/14)- August 9, 2014, Day 187

So I had my hair shampooed and set by my locktician, Precious. Her shampoos are the best. I would go weekly if I my schedule would permit. It is definitely economical and way better than I can ever do. No way can I believe it has been 6 months! No regrets. They are starting to act like unruly teenagers so the lock process has finally begun! Oh and yes I went to Lakeshore with these rollers. I will be wearing them for at least 24 hours to get the perfect long lasting set. Lady said, "12 or 20 rollers, it doesn't matter. You are still in public." lol. A little embarrassing but I am serious about my sets. :) Aren't they perfect? When I set my hair I have about 12 non uniform rollers. This actually looks pretty, better known as professional. Perfect!

Day 173- July 25, 2014

Ok so I think this is my new favorite style. This was my 4th retightening I believe. I am going to quickly loss count of the retightenings. Ok so my Consultant shampooed, retightened, braided my hair, and then rolled the ends on small perm rods. Love it. Initially I loss length but its starting to fall and its beautiful. The "falling" process allows you to have a different hairstyle everyday. I am trying to figure a way to produce volume. I am definitely a volume girl but for now I love this. I made a two week appointment for a shampoo and style. These of course are things that you can do on your own. Well, not me but others. :) I am just not interested plus she's the expert so I definitely love the perfection. The shampoo and styling are super reasonably priced so it just makes sense to let the expert do it, not waste any time, and have guaranteed results. Not to mention the relationship is indescribable.

Day 170- July 22, 2014

I am just in love with my locks. They are growing and sprouting everywhere. I am growing hair on my head in places I have never had hair. Not a day goes by that someone does not ask for my Consultant's number. This hair is the best thing ever!

5 Month Anniversary!- July 2, 2014. Although this pic was taken on July 4, 2014- Day 150

In mid-sentence as usual. Crazy, I have been miscalculating the length of time I have had my Sisterlocks. I have been telling everyone its been 4 months. It has been 5 months. They are starting to thicken and become unruly in places. Wow time flies! My hair is growing at record speed. Its to the point that my favorite style from last month does not even work with my locks this month. :(  Oh well on to a new style. When all else fails, I go to the bun. This is still the best hair decision I have ever made. I went to Vegas this week and guess who did not have to worry about weather or water...MEEEEE!!!

4 Month Anniversary- June 2, 2014. Day 120

Problems? Nope. This is the best hair solution ever. I get a lot of questions but the one comment I always receive is, "When I am 40, I am going to lock my hair. Your hair is beautiful." What is the wait? I wish I would have had the same consultants the first time I locked hair because I would have been locked for 7 years at this point. My consultants have been awesome. Better late than never is my thought. I was not into natural hairstyles unless a bun or only blow drying counted. So this was not part of a natural hair journey process for me. I was just tired. Tired of my life revolving around a hair appointment or not. Now my hair is always done! Oh and I am addicted to lipstick if you have not noticed in most pictures. This is after a long day. I was real cute in the morning. :)

Day 100- May 12, 2014, My favorite day thus far...

Anyone that knows me, knows I love my highlights! I am in love with my Sisterlocks at this stage! All of a sudden they are a lot heavier and way less fly away. I just love them!

Day 85- 2 days after my 2nd retightening

Back view. Its just braided and and rolled on perm rods.

Top view.

My favorite part is a fresh retightening. My consultant shampoos my hair with Dove Unpure. During the process she applies baking soda, sprays vinegar, and pours Seabreeze in my scalp. She allows this to sit for about 5 minutes. This is pure heaven. I can go much longer between shampoos when she shampoos my hair. It typically itches like crazy by day 5 when I shampoo it. This last month I only shampooed it once between retightenings. One because I wanted to avoid slippage and two she can  obviously do it a lot better than I can. If I was half way organized I would schedule "shampoos" but that is just another appointment for me along with everything else. :) I am not there yet. lol

This set doesn't really give me the look I want but it does create volume. Until they thickening up I will be experimenting with the perm rods. The next time I will use the perm rods without the braiding. However, when I do that it just straightens out my curl pattern and it looks like stringy hair. Not the look I am looking for. Although everyone that sets their hair with perm rods achieves the look I want. Lol. Until it starts to swell a little more this is it. I also lose my length with the perm rods but I have to have something for the ends. Until next time. Honestly the super high bun is my favorite look right now so I am merely just experimenting. :)

Day 77

I don't remember the purpose of this picture. Anyhow, its an old braid out/perm rod set. This is not how it looks in the beginning. This is more like day 4. I am still experimenting w hairstyles. I am more into anything that gives me a full look. So experimenting it is. :)

Day 68- My baby's 16th birthday! Happy birthday baby!

These Sisterlocks get to experience it all! I feel like I have had this big baby all my life. He has been my drive and my stamina. Nothing can or will ever replace this bond. The Lord knew I needed him more than I could have ever conceived.

2 month Annivesary- April 2, 2014. Day 60

Had no other pose to make. Just wanted to note my 2 month anniversary. You can't even see the hair. :). I'm sure its delirium from not being able to fall asleep.;)

Day 54- 1st Official Retightening

I feel so "official" with the 1st "official" retightening! Its crazy how fast this hair grows. My consultant, Precious Stallworth (definitely need to get a picture of her up immediately) is the best. I was clearly banding my hair wrong when I was shampooing so the hairline was slipping. I had about 5 little babies that had come undone. No fear Precious rectified that problem and showed me how to band correctly. Another wonderful thing is that I am getting a new and full hairline. I have hair on my head where I haven't had hair in years. Woo! I was concerned about that dear hairline. You did see my earlier pictures so you too can see the difference and my concern! I was truly worried. Lol. Once again, no regrets. Only graciousness of the ultimate freedom!

OMG! The questions I get. Well here are my answers. :)

Everyday someone will ask, "what are those?" Ok, that's completely understandable. Most times people will ask, "What if you wanna take them out?" or "Didn't you want to try braids first?" or "Your hair is so pretty straight."or "How long are you going to have them?"  Indicating that this is not pretty. Lol. I have had Sisterlocks before and took them down. I was not patient and I would definitely say not mature enough at the time. I wanted the instant lock look and I was not getting that. Different curl patterns respond differently to the lock process. The looser the curl, the longer the lock process. The tighter the curl, the shorter the lock process. However, the various transformations that your hair experiences during the process is unique and beautiful.

The most common question asked is why did I choose Sisterlocks? The picture to the right is my natural hair straightened and freshly shampooed. Yes, I had what people think is the perfect hair but it was time consuming and a job. I chose Sisterlocks because I wanted FREEDOM! Freedom from nightly scarves, rain, sweat, beaches, and all other forms of precipitation (If you know what I mean). I also wanted to detox from being a product junkie. Oh my, what freedom that has been! I chucked all those products in a bag and gave them to a student. Good riddance. Also, I know longer have to schedule my life activities around my hair. My hair is always done! Now I can still rock my natural hair but without all the product and maintenance.

Sisterlocks do not require oils, gel, or any other product. If you want to set your hair for a twist or braid out, good ole fashioned water will do. I now have my locks retightened every 4 weeks. As time goes on I may go every 5 to 6 weeks but for now this allows her to troubleshoot any problems I may be having. My ultimate goal is to take the retightening class so that I can maintain my locks myself giving me the ultimate freedom. However, you must have them at least 6 months before you can do that and I need to see where my hair is at that point. I enjoy my retightening sessions though and will miss them one day. My consultant is great and knowledgeable and her shampoos are to die for!

I have only been locked since February 2 and have had no regrets. My only regret is that I didn't get them sooner.
My husband loves them and is happy to not hear me whining about my hair daily escapades. I would definitely say that he is my biggest fan. :)

Day 44- Hair Washing Results

So I was only able to go eight days before I felt like I was going to scratch the life out of my scalp. The one thing I have noticed is that my locks are taking on my natural curl pattern. Interesting. Of course you know Sisterlocks creates the foundation for the hair to lock. At this point of course my hair is not locked yet. That is a process all but itself. However its trying! I did braid, band, and let it air dry. Here are a few pics of the result of my wash. If nothing else, my scalp is clean.

The results of me washing my own locks. Day 41

So I washed my locks 6 days ago. I did not notice any slippage or unraveling. Then yesterday I found this one! It opened up about 3 inches from the scalp but the end is still together. My consultant told me to come in immediately. I do not know if I should brave that again. I am sure I will have to because 10 days is the longest I can go without washing my hair.

3/9/14- 1st wash on my own

So today I braved shampooing my locks (my hairstylist of 10 years always said "shampooing" not "washing" :) @omyhairstudio). My consultant shampooed my locks at my retightening (2/26/14) which was so convenient. However, I know I can not go 30 days without shampooing my hair. That is way too long for me! Ten days is my limit. So I braided, banded, and just squeezed water and shampoo through my locks. I also poured Seabreeze on my scalp during the process. My scalp is now alive! I just knew I was going to scratch the life out of my scalp. I am letting my hair air dry with it banded because I do not know what else to do with it. My styling at this point is super limited.  I will post a pic of the results tomorrow. Scary! :)

1 month Anniversary!

31 days of freedom! This is my freestyle! I have no clue what to do with it! It's perfect!

Day 25 of my Sisterlocks journey 2/27/14

The day after my "Third Visit" of my Sisterlocks package. No slippage. Yay! Actually, my consultant said they were in "pristine" condition. Yes, she's a beauty and brains chick. :) Only the best for my investment. She's absolutely phenomenal! My Sisterlocks survived my fantabulous, international, and  eventful honeymoon. AMAZING! I was advised of every possible situation and I followed all directions. That's definitely the teacher in me. I am a rule follower, what can I say? Lol. After retightening, she shampooed my hair with her personal concoction which was heavenly. The bun was my "go to" hairstyle prior to my Sisterlocks and I guess after too. I love them either way!

2/7/14 Day 5 of my Sisterlocks journey.

After 12 hours and 2 Sisterlock experts later, I am finally locked! Yay me! So this is my first pic that I was bold enough to post. :) I love it! I am so ready to embrace every stage of this journey!
